Countdown Time!

Filed under: Uncategorized — Ashley Hawthorne @ 3:22 pm

So much has happened since my last entry!  i’ll do bullet points so as to not miss any big ones.

1.  WE SOLD OUR HOUSE!  The closing date is tentatively 1st week of January but all paperwork is done so i do not see any reasons for this falling through.  I absolutely love our buyer.  I knew she was “the one” the second she walked through the door.  She was with her mom because the realtor was stuck in traffic so we got to skip past all the businessy stuff and just be real.  Her exact words were “Oh my gosh!  Its even cuter than it was in the pictures!”  As she walked around and picked out her favorite little things in the house and asked questions like “oh my gosh- werent you SO SAD when Domino magazine went under??”  it was confirmed- this girl is the one.  haha.  She reminded me so much of me when i walked in there almost 5 years ago a little nervous and scared to be buying a house all by myself, but the excitement was even more than the anxiety!  It was my favorite thing ever to get accept her offer.  The appraisal was perfect which lets us know that the price was right on and everyone got a fair shake.

2.  I have been very sad about leaving my house.  I was there a couple of years before Kyle and I were together, and it just represents so much to me (excuse the cheese for a minute).  When I bought the house, i had been single for quite some time, was 27 years old, and did NOT forsee myself meeting anyone and getting serious anytime soon.  I was tired or renting and just wanted to do something big and brave for myself.  Therein started the search for a perfect little tiny house that i could paint and decorate and lanscape!  I got Belle (my lab) a week after i got the house, and life was just so much fun!  Emily, my best friend, moved in as well.  I have THOROUGHLY enjoyed my time there.  It has been absolutely some of the best years of my life.  Those early single years were so great, and THEN…. drumroll…. in walks Mr. Kyle Hawthorne!  He was a friend  whom I fell head over heels in love with, and shortly after that he fell in love with me 🙂 !  yeah, had a major crush but totally played it cool until he realized this was the real deal 🙂  when we got engaged and were talking about where to live, it was just the greatest thing in the world us to live in my tiny little wonderful house!  The funny thing is that he didnt really bring anything except some clothes and a deer head 🙂  It fit perfectly.  All of his stuff is still at the old house!

3.  We have been working constantly on the new house but progress seems slow to me.  it probably is NOT slow but it seems slow because there is just so much left to be done.  I accepted (with tears) that we are just going to have a whole lot to do after we move in and that is ok!!!  it is ok!  Big things we have done are below:

-Had SEVEN really tall shaky, unstable, half dead pine trees removed.  This was a huge deal and has taken a very long time.  It caused us to be without electricity so progress was delayed like on the HGTV shows!

-Are currently having additional yard work done to clean up some of the shabbiness that we cannot do ourselves (stump grinding, etc).

-The wood fence is set to begin this week!!!  Yay Matt Lawrence!

-The kitchen cabinets are PAINTED!!!  Yes!  I am in the process of putting in the hardware.

-the main big kitchen/living is painted!  Trim is almost finished and ceiling is almost finished.

-Kyle’s mom gave me a cow hyde rug!  It is PERFECT!

-I bought this couch and chair (in a beautiful paprika-orangy-red)!  2 of these chandeliers!  and this coffee table!

  1. How wonderful! It is always hard to leave a place where you have been happy, but for me it’s always such a positive leap into “the unknown” (-ish) to move on, both literally and symbolically. I love the sofa and chairs; where are those from? Both comfy and neat.

Can’t wait to see more pictures!

  2. you’re right, Kat. you’ve done your fair share of moving on and setting up somewhere else! the chair and sofa are from zgallerie. they have a GREAT collection of upholstery for fantastic prices. dont be fooled b/c the website is misleading… you have a BIG variety of fabrics for the pieces but online they are not shown or offered. in the store, you basically pick and choose. its great! i chose them b/c i thought the frames were classic while still not super traditional, and then the orangy red fabric gives it a big of an unexpected twist with those nail heads! the fabric is a more casual texture than the velvet shown.

  4. I am so happy that the house sold! Congrats! I know it must be bittersweet, but that new girl sounds perfect for it.

And, love your new sofas. Love Z Gallerie! I didn’t know BR had one, jealous.

  5. Awww I’m going to miss your house too and our times as sort-of neighbors! That is so funny, some clothes and a deer head. I can’t wait to see the pictures of the house and the yard. I know you are going to love this house even more. I remember puppy belle and kali playing in the backyard and I will never forget poor belle with all those puppies!
