moving week!

Filed under: Uncategorized — Ashley Hawthorne @ 3:11 pm

This is moving week!  crazy!  Last night Jamie, Monica and Erin came and helped me pack up my ridiculous amount of dining and dishware and party throwing items from the kitchen.  it was the first night of packing that i did not tear up even one single time!  So that was a big step- even bigger than packing up the kitchen.  As far as the house goes, progress has been made, but it doesnt look like it.  haha.  the outside is looking WAY better- not the house but the jungle-ish yard.  we got 10 trees removed (wow!) and had Matt Lawrence build a beautiful 6′ privacy fence, and had a total yard cleanup done by the tree people- trimmed all the hedges, ground all the random stumps, etc.  some hedges went from about 12′ to 4′.  this allowed alot more light into the house too!

Saturday is our maim furniture move, so from now until then i’m doing all the little things.  After i say goodbye to my sweet little first house, i’ll be able to do more and blog more about the new house.  We will be getting high speed internet at the house, so blogging will be more frequent!  Here is our fence!

Some exciting things about the yard- Kyle’s grandpa, the original owner of this house, had a PhD in Horticulture and really loved beautiful plants.  There are several camilia trees that are still there from him and i’m so excited to see them come back to being a focal point in the yard.  Landscaping a ranch style home should be approached differently than that haphazard way cottages are done, so i’m working out a plan for how the yard should look.  one thing is for sure- i’m having a garden!  as in, a vegetable garden.  i’ve always been around gardening and the one big let down about my old house is that there was no sun in the yard, so i had to only use shade plants.  there really arent many food-plants that do well in shade, so look out!!  if you love home grown tomatoes and cucumbers and zucchini and bell peppers and broccoli, etc. let me know and you can be on the list of who helps me eat all of it 🙂

  1. I LOVE homegrown tomatoes!!! As in LOVE! And I can’t grow my own because plants die when I get within 20 feet of them =) sooo…I want on the distribution list! I’m willing to trade cookies for them 😉
